Roughly 50 automobiles have been covered with what appears to be human bodily fluid in the Germany's city of Hanau close to Frankfurt, according to police.
Cars, walls and postboxes were marked, sometimes with Nazi symbols, they stated in a release.
Police report they were notified during the night on Wednesday evening, when a resident observed that a car in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish fluid.
The fluid had been drawn in the form of a banned symbol, they reported.
Officers then discovered numerous other marked vehicles and residential walls in the surrounding area.
These symbols are banned in Germany under regulations outlawing the public display of symbols from the Nazi era.
Officials state early analysis suggest the fluid was likely blood from a person.
"Currently there is no clue as to its source; investigators are currently not informed of any harm in association with the event," they added.
Local authorities said they were attempting "to unravel the case" and have appealed to the community for tips.
A high-ranking political figure commented the vandalism rendered him speechless and required to be solved promptly.
"This incident hits the core of Hanau and reawakens the wounds of the far-right terrorist attack in 2020," he stated on social media, recalling the murder of nine victims by a gunman targeting residents of immigrant origin in February 2020.
